“Beautiful job rebuilding my small city lot on a very busy street from zero to an oasis (or it will be once I can plant in the spring). It was a complicated job dealing with a bamboo invasion/ digging out large rocks/ installing a pond/ building a retaining wall to support the new deck/ installing drain tile underneath a rock “river”/ building a screening fence, two gates, a shed, and hot tub privacy fencing. Things went well overall. Their excavators, carpenters, pond builder, and stone masons are all first rate. They are not cheap, but I didn’t really think any of the other companies I got bids from could have successfully handled a job with this many moving parts.

My quibble is how long it took (four months) with long periods where they were not working on this job. People get sick and don’t work out, of course, but all too often I was not kept in the loop. But as I said, I am satisfied with the job and look forward to years of peaceful enjoyment of a beautiful new space.”

“When we moved in to our house we loved the inside of the house but hated our yard. We had an uneven, unusable area filled with concrete and mud. Access from the house was poor and there was very little privacy. As soon as we met with the designers to put together a design for our ‘perfect yard’ we knew it was going to be good. The design was able to translate everything we had asked for on to paper and more importantly Premier Backyard Living was able to take this from paper to reality. Now we have an amazing outdoor space which flows beautifully from our inside space. Although our yard is small we have many separate areas which are both beautiful and functional. “We had several bids for our large landscape project. Our slope made the project complicated and expensive. Micah was the only one to give us options and suggestions for various pricing levels. As a consumer, I rely on the expertise of the professional in the field and appreciated Micah’s suggestions and the pros and cons for each material. He was knowledgeable and took the time to explain the process to us – and this is not an easy accomplishment with an engineer husband who does his own research and has many questions. Micah’s method of communication was great. We were reassured that no short cuts were taken. In addition, the billing and communication of weekly work completed was detailed and understandable. The project did take longer than estimated but in my opinion, a small price to pay for quality craftmanship. We have done enough remodels to know that there are always surprises and quick communication and collaboration are the key to success. Our project officially ended in November ish of 2019 and there were a couple of minor issues which Micah was very responsive to. “I originally wrote to Micah asking questions about his Roth property project. I was searching photographs of outdoor projects similar to our design. Our project is about to get started and we are down to a few more details which we need to decide. What I saw on the photos of the Roth project appeared to be very close to our hopes. I took note that the location out west (Oregon) and we live on the east coast (Pennsylvania), so I wasn’t certain I would get a response, but decided to try anyway.

I first contacted him via Houzz and to my surprise he responded by calling me back and leaving a voicemail. I, in turn, called him back and we spoke on the phone. Micah eagerly responded and had no problem talking with me about the project and a few more questions I had.

We mainly hired them to trim a large hedge, remove a lot of invasive Ivy and build a wood gate to our back yard. While having the initial visit with the estimator Nick, we asked if there was anything he would recommend for our property. Nick pointed out that he could see our garbage/recycling cans from the street and they were just sitting on the side of the house collecting mud. He recommended building a small paver landing for the garbage cans to sit on and a small cedar privacy screen to block seeing them from the street. We really liked the idea and after receiving the quote decided to move forward with all the work.

Even though they did a great job on everything, my neighbors always comment on the privacy screen! I have had 3 neighbors on my street ask who installed it because they would like the same thing done on their property! I wholly recommend Premier Backyard Living!”

“I first used Premier Backyard Living back in 2011 when they installed a back patio area for me. They did an excellent job on that project. They were very quick in their work, and they were very clean with the cleanup. They were concerned about the surrounding yard. Because of that first experience, last summer when I wanted to install a fire pit in the backyard I thought of Micah and his company. He gave me a reasonable quite, and again they did excellent work. They completed the work within a couple of weeks. Micah’s crews are very professional. I met with them a couple times, and they always asked me questions and asked if I was pleased with the work done. The communication was really good, and I was very pleased with the process. Micah gave me great ideas in terms of design for the fireplace. He also installed three, wooden screens that I never envisioned. I really appreciated his design and advice! “To begin with, a very professional and well coordinated project. The design of the landscaping was excellent. The various work crews were experienced, proficient, and attentive to the requirements. In general, a good job all around to begin with.

Unhappily, their follow up with maintenance issues and questions is unacceptable. I asked three times, twice in writing, once verbally, for information regarding the maintenance of a water feature; there has been no response. Also, I requested their design team to stop by and compare the layout of the plants in the design to what has survived after the latest summer and winter. There has been no response. Further, the overall design has not done well with our landscape’s topography. The winter rains cause serious erosion and degrade the overall quality.

So, the design on paper looked great, the installation went well, but the results and follow up is fair to poor.”

We had 2-3 rows of pavers that were sloping next to the stairs. They came in raised it back to level and relayed the pavers. Micah was great to work with and like I said, I’m surprised they even took my call let alone came out to do the repair. They could have easily blamed it on poor drainage or roots or other. I’d use them again for sure and would highly recommend them.”

“I can’t say enough good things about our recent experience with Premier Backyard Living. We undertook a very challenging complete pool renovation along with replacement of all the hardscaping and planting beds surrounding the pool. The project was a logistical nightmare considering we had to get all the materials in and out of the pool area which sits behind the house and 40 steps up from the street.

We first met with the owner who was very attentive to our ideas for renovating the entire area. We next met with the company’s designer who came up with the drawing for the renovation, multiple pictures of what the finished project would look like, and suggestions for materials and amenities. This was a smooth back and forth process. You pay up front for the design, drawings, and graphics but get rebated 50% if you decide to follow through with the project. It is well worth it.

The next step was to meet with the project manager and talk about the sequencing of the project and come up with a schedule. The company uses a builder app which allows you to see an updated schedule every week along with pictures of the site’s progress. There is also an email function. The back and forth communication between us and the project manager was excellent throughout the entire project. We also ran into several unknowns such as a rusted out gas line and two 25 foot deep dry wells under the existing concrete that no one knew existed. These situations required some quick problem solving which this company proved very good at. Also the transportation of materials in and out of the job site required some creative solutions which the company proved very adept at.

The work crew were hardworking, concise, and very congenial. This project posed some real challenges for them which they handled with no complaints. The finished project exceeded our expectations. Friends and neighbors who saw the old pool area can hardly believe the transformation. This company truly lives up to their name: Premier Backyard Living!”
